We are seeking an emerging Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to support rapid growth and increasingly complex operations within a dynamic, fast-paced organization. This role is a key member of the business operations team, with a strong focus on cash flow forecasting, job costing, and financial performance management across multiple customer projects.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, highly analytical, and thrives in a growth-stage environment where adaptability and ownership are essential.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Performance & Planning
- Develop and maintain financial models to forecast, track, and analyze cash flow, profitability, and work-in-progress (WIP).
- Lead annual budgeting, financial planning, and forecasting processes.
- Prepare timely, accurate GAAP-based monthly financial statements and board reporting packages.
Tax Strategy & Compliance
- Oversee corporate income tax and multi-state sales tax compliance across 30+ states and Canada.
- Manage tax planning, filings, and audit processes.
- Ensure compliance with all applicable federal, state, and local tax regulations.
Contract & Risk Management
- Review and establish customer contracts, including financial terms and payment structures.
- Manage subcontractor agreements, ensuring alignment of flow-down terms and minimizing financial risk.
- Monitor contract performance and cash flow implications.
ERP & Financial Systems Leadership
- Serve as the internal expert for the ERP system (Acumatica preferred).
- Develop dashboards, reporting tools, and data insights for real-time business decision-making.
Cash Management & Treasury
- Oversee cash flow strategy and optimize working capital allocation across operations, growth initiatives, and investments.
- Manage treasury functions, including investment of excess cash and prudent use of debt financing.
Payroll & Benefits Oversight
- Partner with payroll leadership to ensure accurate, compliant, and timely payroll and 401(k) administration across a multi-state workforce.
Accounting, Audit & Internal Controls
- Support project accounting, ensuring accurate cost tracking and revenue recognition on an accrual basis.
- Serve as a lead contact during financial audits, ensuring smooth execution.
- Strengthen internal controls, financial security, and fraud prevention initiatives.
- Calculate labor rates and overhead allocations.
- Manage indirect costs (insurance, software, etc.) to improve efficiency and profitability.
- Provide hands-on support and coverage for accounting staff as needed.
Grants & Strategic Funding
- Identify, research, and secure grant opportunities related to manufacturing, R&D, and workforce development.
- Pursue non-dilutive funding opportunities to support strategic growth.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in accounting, financial forecasting, and job costing
- Strong understanding of GAAP and financial reporting
Preferred
- CPA certification
- Experience as a Controller or Assistant Controller in a small to mid-sized organization
- Public accounting background
- ERP system expertise
- Experience with tax compliance (income and sales tax)
- Contract review and negotiation experience
